Scars and stretch marks

Most people focus on surface-level skincare, but your skin's health and radiance come from within.

We are all born lovingly wrapped in our layers of skin, and as we go through life, damage (or life!) can happen to this skin that causes us to experience scars and stretch marks.

Ultimately, how well our skin is able to maintain its structure and integrity when it is under physical stress—such as from cuts, wounds or stretching—comes down to our nutritional status and immune system (and, of course, the extent of the stress placed on the skin). When our skin is broken or stretched, we become at risk of exposure to bacteria and other pathogens that could cause us harm—so the body will prioritise closing these ‘spaces’ to prevent this.

Whether the wounds or stretched skin heal effortlessly, with minimal (or no) visibility or not, often comes down to our immune system having access to enough of the key nutrients and substances it needs to optimally heal our skin. These include:

Gotu kola

Gotu kola is a herb that has excellent wound healing properties. It also has a regenerative effect on vein walls, helping to stimulate circulation to the skin’s surface and support the flow of nutrients to the area.

Zinc

Without adequate levels of zinc, wounds are slow to heal and you may be prone to frequent infections, which can prolong the scarring. Zinc also nourishes the scalp and low zinc levels have been linked with hair loss and a dry, flaky scalp. Too many people in today’s world aren’t getting enough of this crucial mineral because it’s no longer found in rich quantities in many foods.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C aids in wound healing and bone and tooth formation, strengthens blood vessel walls, improves immune function, increases absorption of iron, and acts as an antioxidant, slowing the ageing process. It also holds cells together through collagen synthesis. You need vitamin C daily to help your body make this elastic tissue that is found in the skin, ligaments, tendons, cartilage and blood vessels. Since our bodies cannot produce or store vitamin C, it must be consumed daily to receive enough for optimum health.

The immune system is always looking to improve the quality of your ‘earth suit’. Whether that is protecting you from an overgrowth of certain bugs, eliminating these from your body or ensuring you have robust protection measures in place to keep them out in the first place—and it is continuously doing this. By providing it with ample immune-loving nutrients now, your immune system will have plenty of resources to work away on protecting you—including helping to maintain healthy skin structure.

Skin Nutrition

The melon in Bio Blends Skin Nutrition has been specifically sourced for its high superoxide dismutase (SOD) content—a powerful antioxidant enzyme

Contains gotu kola, a herb known to support good circulation to the skin—think delivery of oxygen and nutrients.

Nourish your skin from the inside out.
